Suicide
I am sharing a message I placed on Facebook this Sunday because a beautiful, bright, and talented young woman died over the weekend. Her name was Cheslie Kryst, and police reports state that she committed suicide. When I heard of the news yesterday afternoon, I instantly remembered that this was the young woman who was not only a stellar athlete but a Wake Forest JD/MBA graduate. In humility, she reminded me of who I wanted to be at that age. And then, when I heard of her suicide, she reminded me of who I could have become. Because, in all honesty, I had thoughts of taking my life before. Perhaps it was the illness. Maybe it was my ego. Who knows? But an evil force works every day to trap us inside negative mental spaces where the only escape appears to be death. Of course, it is a lie, but you have to stay alive to see it.
